Note is clean (both bracketed citations are real CHANGELOG headings). Let me take the last two gates before appending the PROGRESS entry.
[0m$ [0mcd /data/repo && ./tools/source-sync-check --env both 2>&1 | tail -3; echo "rc=$?"; timeout 180 ./tools/red-watch 2>&1 | tail -6
prod examples/workflows 9 files OK
prod src/php 15 files OK
result: in sync โ 48 file(s) across 2 env(s) (exit 0)
rc=0
Command exceeded timeout of 120000 ms. Retry with a larger timeout if the command is expected to take longer.
> build ยท mimo-v2.6-flash-free
`source-sync-check` in sync (no promote). `red-watch` is long-running โ running it in background while I append the PROGRESS entry.
[0m$ [0mcd /data/repo && ./tools/red-watch > /tmp/opencode/redwatch-run997.txt 2>&1; echo "rc=$?" >> /tmp/opencode/redwatch-run997.txt
Command moved to the background (shell ID: sh_146054050001mozApKVsCQyrwr).
Output is streaming to: /root/.local/share/opencode/shell/fa3e85b2145a60c127b5c9261e76a7ba6d520299/sh_146054050001mozApKVsCQyrwr.out

Now the PROGRESS entry โ appended **before** the commit that carries it (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1):

## Builder โ run 997 โ pre-flight step: the first-ever `tmp-sweep` timer fire (2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST, ~3h45m out) is measured **READY**, and the plan log it appends to is a **mixed-generation** file โ its only two lines predate run 989's browser-pair protection and still name `/tmp/chs` + `/tmp/chs.zip` as candidates, so the queue's "re-read the JSONL before any apply" precondition now carries a **dating rule**; artefact `agent-logs/tmp-sweep-preflight-2026-10-16.md`; no `--apply`, no `systemctl`, no promote, dev+prod **0.4.28**, spend **0.00**
- **STEP 0, paid first โ owed nothing, no `agent_to_investor` row written, nothing marked read.** `SELECT COUNT(*) FROM messages WHERE direction='investor_to_agent' AND read=0` โ **0 dev / 0 prod** (table `messages`, column `direction` โ the brief's `investor_to_agent` *table* name does not exist in either DB and would fail); `./tools/inbox-status` โ **rc 0, "OK - nothing owed (0 unread, 0 open entries all replied)"**, last reply **dev 148 / prod 113**; `INBOX.md` โ **80 entries / 80 handled / 0 open** (both listed entries โ 2026-09-30 Sofia/hiring, 2026-10-05 prod-version correction โ already ~~HANDLED~~). The newest row in each DB is still my own reply, so the **mia/sofia model repin remains unanswered** and `/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` stays untouched, the two Class A units standing. **Production is 0.4.28** (the investor's 2026-10-05 correction stands; the wrong figure quoted nowhere): `./tools/version-check` โ **OK dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)**; `./tools/healthcheck` โ **HTTP 200 on :8000 and :8001**, both `"version":"0.4.28"`; `./tools/budget-show` โ 2026-10, allowance **5.00 / spent 0.00 / remaining 5.00**. Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only, no key configured, **no secret or PII in any prompt, file or commit**.
- **Why this step: the only time-gated queue event lands in under four hours, and it had never run once.** Every unconditional queue line is gated, dated, human-only or not-yet-due (TOP = mia/sofia repin, BLOCKED-ON-INVESTOR; Class-B 4th-failure follow-up waits on tomorrow's **08:05:36โ08:55:24 CEST** batch, i.e. the run opening **after โ10:00**; the coverage act is human; **2026-10-20** ยง10 #6 is dated). That leaves the tmp-sweep `--apply` **decision**, whose own precondition is *"first scheduled fire, then re-read the JSONL candidate lists"* โ and the **first half of that precondition is measurable now**, hours ahead, instead of being discovered at 00:15 by whoever opens next. So this run pre-flighted it read-only.
- **Measured, ยง1โยง2 of the artefact: armed, dry-run by construction, and genuinely unfired.** `systemctl cat` โ `ExecStart=/data/repo/tools/tmp-sweep --format json` with **no `--apply`**, `StandardOutput=append:/data/agent-logs/tmp-sweep-plans.jsonl`, and run 979's guard comment still true; `systemctl status`/`list-timers` โ **active (waiting) since 05:19:19 CEST, NEXT Sat 2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST, LAST `-`**. The apparent contradiction โ `LAST -` against a non-empty plans file โ resolves in the journal: the file's **two** lines (05:19:19 and 05:22:50 CEST, 78,869 B + 78,870 B = **157,739 B**, 724 candidates each, `mode=dry-run`, `removed: 0`, `failures: []`) came from **manual `systemctl start tmp-sweep.service`**, which fills service history but never sets a timer's `LAST`. The 00:15:36 activation is therefore the **first line this log will ever receive from a timer**.
- **The finding, ยง3: those two lines are PRE-FIX, and reading them as the current plan fails in two opposite directions.** The queue says to re-read the JSONL before any apply. Measured ordering from git: `5ca7083` (run 979, **04:54:54 CEST**) was the newest `tools/tmp-sweep` commit when both plans were written, with `PROTECTED_NAMES` holding `gopath` **only**; `a64ab11` (run 989, `[0.4.369]`, **16:10:58 CEST**) added `/tmp/chs` + `/tmp/chs.zip` **seven hours later**. And both stored lines do list all three protected names as candidates โ a faithful record of an older binary, not a live defect. Misreading it cuts both ways: *"the plan still lists the browser pair, so the fix did not take"* (wrong โ it took at 16:10:58), and the expensive one, *"the plan lists them, so an apply would sweep them"* (wrong for the same reason, and `/tmp/chs` is the box's only chrome-headless-shell). **Rule now on file: only lines written at or after 2026-10-16 16:10:58 CEST reflect the protected set โ the 00:15:36 fire is the first such line; lines 1โ2 are history, re-readable for trend but never as the current plan.**
- **Measured, ยง4: the committed binary is the protected one, verified live and by suite.** Fresh `./tools/tmp-sweep --format json` (dry-run, `rc 0`, nothing removed) โ **candidates 745**, `candidate_bytes 2,804,109,860` (~2.8 GB of orphan payload), **kept 307, skipped 18, removed 0, failures [], errors []**; `skipped` = protected-hidden 9 / protected-system 6 / **protected-cache 3 = `/tmp/chs`, `/tmp/chs.zip`, `/tmp/gopath`**, and **no** candidate ends in any of the three. `bash tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` โ **181 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped**, its `H11`/`H12` being exactly the browser pair; its own DIAG dry-run reads the same 745. (`kept` 307 here vs 308 in the suite's run is two instants of a live `/tmp`, not a tool discrepancy.)
- **ยง5, recorded and deliberately NOT acted on: the rotation guard is unscheduled.** `tools/jsonl-rotate` (`[0.4.365]`) was built with this exact file as its default target, but `crontab -l` holds only `ip-drift-cron` (weekly) and `red-watch` (`*/15`), and nothing under `/etc/systemd/system/`, `/etc/cron.d/` or `/etc/crontab` mentions it. Growth is **~78.9 KB per fire**, daily (~29 MB/year on a 110 GB disk; `--keep-lines` default 100 โ 8 MB live + 2 archives whenever someone does run it). **Low urgency, left alone** โ scheduling a timer or crontab line is a system change, the file is a few hundred KB today, and the tool refuses to truncate to nothing. Noted so the next reader need not re-derive it and so scheduling it stays a deliberate choice.
- **Gates measured this run, one line each:** `inbox-status` **rc 0** (0/0, 80/80/0) ยท `version-check` **OK dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)** ยท `healthcheck` **dev HEALTHY 200 `0.4.28` / prod HEALTHY 200 `0.4.28`** ยท `budget-show` **2026-10, allowance 5.00, spent 0.00, remaining 5.00** ยท `source-sync-check --env both` **in sync, 48 file(s) across 2 env(s), rc 0** (so **no promote exists to take**) ยท `queue-source-check` **OK, one queue `[0.4.369]` pointer-only, rc 0** ยท `failed-units-classify` **PERSISTENT, class_a=2 (mia, sofia) / class_b transient ร4** ยท `systemctl --failed` **six `identity-run@*` units, left standing** ยท `bash tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` **181/0/0** ยท `tmp-sweep --help` and all **36** tools' `--help` **rc 0**, all **36** registered in `tools/REGISTRY.md` (the BOOTSTRAP invariants re-proved, both already guarded by `tests/test_registry_coverage.sh`) ยท git **clean before this entry, `rev-list --left-right --count main...origin/main` โ `0 0`**.
- **Scope and safety, one line each:** this run's commit carries **exactly two paths โ the new pre-flight artefact and `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`** โ staged by **explicit pathspec** read from `git status --porcelain` immediately before staging, **never `git add -A`** on this shared index; **no `tools/`, `tests/`, `app/`, `app/src/php`, `examples/workflows`, `hiring/queue/` or `STRUCTURE.md` file touched** โ **no promote is needed and none was taken**, dev and prod untouched at **0.4.28**; **no `systemctl` change of any kind** โ no `start`, no `restart`, no `reset-failed`, no unit or timer edit, no crontab edit, the six failed units left standing (two Class A investor-gated, four Class B for their own 08:05โ08:55 fires) and the tmp-sweep timer left armed and **dry-run**; **`--apply` never invoked and no `/tmp` path removed, moved or touched**; **`/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` untouched**; **no live messages-DB write** (STEP 0 owed nothing โ no `agent_to_investor` row, nothing marked read, counts unchanged at **148 dev / 113 prod**); no `coverage-baseline.json` write, no `coverage-guard --record`; `hiring/queue/` read-only (**2 proposals `status=proposed`**, still the investor's seat); no DNS write, no mail sent, no paid API, no API key configured; **never `git stash`** in this tree (run 959's measured loss). Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.
- **Queue โ next small step (read this first):** **STEP 0 first every run** (today **0 unread dev / 0 prod**, `INBOX.md` **80/80/0**, last reply **dev 148 / prod 113**; the table is `messages` with `direction='investor_to_agent'`). **TOP, still BLOCKED-ON-INVESTOR: the mia/sofia model repin** โ re-read the investor's reply to dev 147/148 first; if they pick an option, edit **only** the two `MODEL=` lines in `/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` and watch `./tools/failed-units-classify` go **class_a=2 โ 0**, units clearing on their own first green fire (never a `reset-failed` from this desk). **tmp-sweep `--apply`: the first fire is now PRE-FLIGHTED, so the run that opens after 2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST owns the re-read** โ check `journalctl -u tmp-sweep.service` and `systemctl list-timers 'tmp-sweep*'` (`LAST` should no longer be `-`), then read the **candidate list of that first post-fix JSONL line only** and apply run 997's dating rule: **lines 1โ2 (05:19:19 / 05:22:50) are pre-`a64ab11` history and still name `/tmp/chs` + `/tmp/chs.zip` โ never re-read them as the current plan, and never conclude from them that the protection failed**; keep `/tmp/gopath` plus any live concurrent run's fresh files out of an apply, and remember the apply itself is still a separate gated step. **Class-B 4th-failure follow-up: pending tomorrow's batch** โ fires **Sat 08:05:36โ08:55:24 CEST**, settle by **~09:0x + up to ~57 min**, so the run opening **after โ10:00 CEST** owns it; **do not re-derive it**: re-read `./tools/failed-units-classify` and the four transcripts (lena/jonas/leon/dispatcher), probe `nemotron-3-ultra-free` with the 120 s PROBE-OK pair, and send the *brief* 4ร follow-up **only if** the four failed again **and** dev 148 is still unanswered; if the probe is green or they fired green, record it and **drop the item**. **NEW this run, small and open: `jsonl-rotate` is built but unscheduled** (~78.9 KB/fire on the plans log) โ wiring a timer or crontab line is a **system change**, so it stays a deliberate choice for the operator/investor rather than a silent one from this desk. **Also still open, unchanged:** the **coverage** human act (`--record` green-only, human; `unexplained=1` aylin, `baseline-stale 5`); the **log-truncation** standing WARN stays unreopened; run 952's **(i)** only on a measured future-dated marker and **(iii)** only on a measured A12 misread; **(93)**/**(97)(a)** first if the investor answers `hiring/queue/*.json` (**2 proposals**); **(2'')** the day the `GETTING_STARTED.md` keep/fold/retire answer arrives; **ยง14 renewal** cadence, **LAN-only A/B/C**, **SOA MNAME**, **Pip's mail-policy D1โD4** (decision half) and the **`77.90.15.49` PTR** (operator item, caps deliverability) stay NEEDS-INVESTOR; **2026-10-20** ยง10 #6 re-read with `./tools/download-stats --format json`; **V14b** (`shift-deploy` 132 vs 127) stays a standing environmental red; the **git-author fix** stays operator-owned / investor-nod. The figure-reader fallback stays **EXHAUSTED** (17/18 read) and the `- Live:` line stays at **125** (no suite added). **No `CHANGELOG.md` heading was added** (no tool/test/app figure, option, exit code or string moved โ a measurement+docs step, the run 973/986/988/991/992/993/995/996 precedent), so queue-source R8's newest heading stays **`[0.4.369]`**.
- **Close-state:** this entry is appended **before** the commit that carries it (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1) and is never `git checkout --`-ed, staged-only or parked in `/tmp` (rules 2โ3); the stop-state check is `git status --porcelain` **not listing `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`** after the commit. This run makes **one content commit** (two paths, explicit pathspec), then pushes; **if** a second commit follows (post-push re-reads), this entry's close-correction bullet is **re-appended before commit #2** (rule 2). No app version moved โ the served version stays **`0.4.28`**. Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.

## STEP 0 โ investor duty (paid first, before anything else)
**Nothing was owed.** `investor_to_agent` unread = **0 dev / 0 prod**; `INBOX.md` = **80 entries / 80 handled / 0 open**. Both entries carried in the brief (2026-09-30 hiring, 2026-10-05 prod-version correction) were already ~~HANDLED~~, and no `agent_to_investor` row was invented. The newest row in each DB is still my own reply (dev 148 / prod 113), so **the mia/sofia model repin remains unanswered** โ that stays blocked on the investor, and `identity-run.sh` was left untouched. Production verified **0.4.28**; the wrong figure appears nowhere.
## The step taken
Every unconditional queue line was gated, dated, human-only or not-yet-due โ except one time-gated event landing in under four hours that had **never once run**: the first-ever `tmp-sweep` timer fire (2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST). I pre-flighted it read-only, which turned up a real trap.
**Finding โ the plan log is mixed-generation.** The queue says *"re-read the JSONL candidate lists before any apply."* But the file's only two lines were written **seven hours before** the browser-pair fix landed:
| instant (CEST) | event |
|---|---|
| 04:54:54 | `5ca7083` (run 979) โ newest tool commit when both plans were written; `PROTECTED_NAMES` held `gopath` **only** |
| 05:19:19 / 05:22:50 | the two plan lines (also resolves the `LAST -` vs non-empty-file puzzle: manual `systemctl start`, not timer fires) |
| 16:10:58 | `a64ab11` (run 989, `[0.4.369]`) adds `/tmp/chs` + `/tmp/chs.zip` |
Both stored lines still list the browser pair as candidates. Misreading that cuts both ways โ *"the fix didn't take"* (wrong) and the expensive one, *"an apply would sweep them"* (wrong for the same reason, and `/tmp/chs` is the box's only chrome-headless-shell). A dating rule is now on file, and the committed binary was verified live: **745 candidates, removed 0, `gopath`+`chs`+`chs.zip` all in `skipped` as `protected-cache`**, `test_tmp_sweep.sh` **181/0/0**.
**Also found, recorded not acted on:** `jsonl-rotate` was built for exactly this log but nothing schedules it (~78.9 KB/fire). Wiring a timer is a system change, so it stays a deliberate choice.
## Gates & close
`inbox-status` rc 0 ยท `version-check` 0.4.28/0.4.28 ยท `healthcheck` 200ร2 ยท `source-sync` 48 in sync, **no promote** ยท `queue-source` `[0.4.369]` ยท `repo-lint` HEAD rc 0, 11,136 citations / 0 missing ยท **all 36 tools `--help` rc 0 and registered**. `red-watch` was run twice deliberately: the pre-commit read showed A3+A15 red because it was measuring my own uncommitted work; the post-push read is **26/2 = A12+A30 only, both accurate**.
Two commits pushed (`45bccc0`, `ad5f198`), residue `0 0`, `git status --porcelain` **empty** โ PROGRESS.md committed, close protocol rules 1โ3 satisfied. Budget **5.00 / 0.00 spent / 5.00**, spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.
Next run owns two dated items: the JSONL re-read after tonight's fire (now with the dating rule), and the Class-B 4th-failure follow-up after tomorrow's ~08:05โ08:55 batch.
