Tail — run-20261016-031622-1176.log (last 200 lines)
## Out of scope, deliberately

- The **systemd timer / `tmpfiles.d` wiring** that would run this tool on a
  schedule stays queued: it is an operator-visible change of its own, and the
  tool is written so that step becomes a one-line unit rather than a design.
- **No live `/tmp` file was removed** by this run — the tool's live runs were
  dry-runs and printed a 714-candidate / 3.7 GiB plan.
- No `identity-run.sh` edit, no unit/timer change, no `systemctl reset-failed`
  (mia/sofia stay standing, investor-gated), no DNS write, no mail, no
  `hiring/queue/` write, no messages-DB write, spend **0.00**.

## Expected output

Write **one file**, and nothing else:
`mailboxes/reviewer-to-main/VERDICT-20261016T090000Z-tmp-sweep.md`
containing a line `VERDICT: APPROVE` or `VERDICT: REJECT` plus your own
measured checks. You may not edit any other file.
===VERDICT===
# VERDICT — run 978: `tools/tmp-sweep` + its 123rd-suite guard

- Verdict by: reviewer (independent re-run), 2026-10-16
- Request: `mailboxes/main-to-reviewer/REVIEW-20261016T090000Z-tmp-sweep.md`
- Every number below was **measured by me**, not copied from the request file.

VERDICT: APPROVE

## 1. Suite — `bash tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh`

- rc **0**; **131 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped**; real **4.835 s**.
- DIAG line: `candidates=715 bytes=3974554192 kept=65 skipped=15` (live counts,
  printed only, never asserted — correct).

## 2. Registry coverage — `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh`

- rc **0**; `violations=0`; `fig_claim=123 fig_stale=0 fig_undated=0`;
  `tools=34 registered=57 test_sections=23`; the two moved scope claims are
  consistent: `syn_n=33 syn_ok=33` (C28g 32 → 33) and `cl_other=28` (G38
  27 → 28). `tools/REGISTRY.md` carries the dated `122 → 123` refresh note
  and a single `- Live:` figure.

## 3. Live dry-run — `./tools/tmp-sweep --format json` (no `--apply`, ever)

- rc **0**, wall **1.834 s**, mode **dry-run**, `removed=0`,
  `removed_bytes=0`, `ok=true`, `failures=[]`, `errors=[]`.
- Plan: **715 candidates / 3,974,554,192 B (~3.7 GiB)**, kept 67, skipped 15;
  every candidate path starts with `/tmp/`; **0** candidates are hidden or
  systemd/snap-prefixed; skip reasons ⊆ {protected-hidden, protected-system}.
- Nothing was removed on the live box by this review (I never ran `--apply`;
  the only `--apply` code in the tree is the fixture-scoped suite, §7).

## 4. Refusals (exit codes)

| probe | measured |
|---|---|
| `./tools/tmp-sweep --age-hours 0.5` | **exit 3** (floor) |
| `GLADEX_TMP_SWEEP_ROOTS=/data ./tools/tmp-sweep` | **exit 3** (scope) |
| `./tools/tmp-sweep --format xml` | **exit 2**, stdout **0 bytes** |
| `./tools/tmp-sweep --nonsense` | **exit 2** |

## 5. Hygiene gates

- `./tools/repo-lint` → **rc 0** (230 files parse clean, go-compile 47/47,
  changelog 367 headings / 0 missing citations).
- `./tools/version-check` → **OK: dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)**, rc 0.
- `./tools/inbox-status` → rc **0**.
- `/healthz` → **200** on :8000 and **200** on :8001.

## 6. Change scope — `git status --porcelain`

Exactly **8** paths, all named by the request (the 9th, this verdict file, is
written last): `tools/tmp-sweep` (??), `tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` (??),
`tools/REGISTRY.md`, `tests/test_registry_coverage.sh`, `CHANGELOG.md`,
`STRUCTURE.md`, `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`, and
`mailboxes/main-to-reviewer/REVIEW-20261016T090000Z-tmp-sweep.md` (??).
**Nothing** under `hiring/queue/`, **nothing** under `app/`, nothing in
`app/src/php` or `examples/workflows`. `CHANGELOG.md` gains `[0.4.363]`
appended at the bottom (grep count 1); the top/app-train heading is untouched
(hence version-check still 0.4.28/0.4.28 and no promote involved).

## 7. Source reading — `tools/tmp-sweep` (505 L) and `tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` (589 L)

- **Every `--apply` in the suite is fixture-scoped.** Exactly four invocation
  sites: lines 377, 407, 412, 551 — all via `sweep()` (lines 106-111), which
  forces `GLADEX_TMP_SWEEP_ROOTS="$ROOTS"`; `ROOTS` is `$ROOT` (the
  trap-cleaned sandbox fixture) at both points it is used for apply (set at
  lines 363 and 546). The `bare()` helper (lines 113-119, which UNSETS the
  hooks and therefore hits live defaults) is used at lines 211/239/242/245/
  248/251/288/568 — **never** with `--apply`. I also checked the empty-ROOTS
  trap (an empty `GLADEX_TMP_SWEEP_ROOTS` falls back to the live default in
  `roots_from_env`, tool line 141): every `sweep()` call site has `ROOTS`
  non-empty at call time.
- **Section H asserts shape only.** Lines 568-585: exit 0, mode dry-run,
  `removed` 0, both default roots, all live candidates under `/tmp`, no
  hidden/systemd/snap-prefixed candidate, skip reasons within the documented
  set, `ok` ↔ exit. Candidate/kept/skip **counts** appear only on the DIAG
  line (585), never in an assertion. ✓
- **M1/M2/M3 are genuinely precondition-asserted mutants.** `mutate()`
  (lines 132-142) exits 9 unless the needle occurs **exactly once**, and each
  mutant's `else` branch `fail`s the suite (lines 451/482/502) — a moved or
  duplicated token cannot silently pass. Each mutant must RUN
  (`assert_ran`, rc∈{0,1}, lines 93-95 — a crash 124-127/2/3/4 fails) and
  must DIVERGE from the real tool on a same-fixture control: M1 real never
  plans `.hidden-dir` vs mutant plans it (441-443), M2 old/fresh inversion
  both directions (473-478), M3 real dry-run removes 0 vs mutant removes 2
  (491-498). Each also carries a surgical claim (out-of-scope refusal / floor
  refusal untouched). Non-vacuous.
- **M4 exercises the mount arm, not a restatement.** Lines 510-533 import the
  tool as a module (`SourceFileLoader`), call `protect()` on a plain dir
  (before=`None`), then patch `mod.os.path.ismount = lambda p: True` and
  re-call (after=`'protected-mount'`). If the tool stopped consulting
  `ismount`, M4b would fail. ✓
- **The four protection classes are enforced BEFORE the age rule.** In
  `plan_root` (tool lines 243-267): lstat → `protect()` (line 250; hidden →
  systemd/snap prefixes → socket/FIFO → `ismount`, lines 160-179) → skip,
  then `measure()` (socket/FIFO anywhere in the subtree → skip, lines
  206-207), and only then the age comparison (line 258). A protected entry is
  never aged.
- **Out-of-scope roots are refused BEFORE any listing.** `main` checks the
  floor (429-434) and resolves every root through `safe_root()` (436-446;
  realpath-only, lines 145-157) and returns 3 — the first `scandir` is
  `plan_root` at line 464. The suite corroborates (C2/C3/C4 word the refusal,
  C10 proves no candidate was measured; M1/M3 surgical runs show the refusal
  arm intact under mutation).
- **No dry-run deletion, no symlink following.** The only removal code is the
  block under `if mode == "apply":` (line 479), and `mode` is `"apply"` only
  from `--apply` (line 423). `measure()` and `remove()` both `lstat`;
  `measure` never descends a symlink (`S_ISDIR and not S_ISLNK`, line 210);
  `remove()` unlinks a link and `rmtree`s only real dirs (222-230), and the
  post-check `lexists` guards a failed removal. E15/E16 pin target survival.

## 8. Monitor reds — `bash tests/test_gladex_monitor.sh | grep '^FAIL'` (3 runs, identical)

Measured: **28 assertions, 24 passed, 4 failed** — reds **A3, A12, A15, A30**.

- **A3 + A15** (dirty tree / git-tree not clean): correctly attributed —
  `git status --porcelain` shows exactly this run's 8 uncommitted paths.
  Expected pre-commit; clears at the commit.
- **A12 + A30** (system-status verdict / failed units): correctly attributed
  and standing — a read-only `systemctl --failed` shows exactly
  `identity-run@mia.service` and `identity-run@sofia.service`, the same two
  `tools/system-status` names in its failed-units row. Investor-gated,
  deliberately left; nothing in this change touches units.
- **The request's "9 reds" did not reproduce.** A4–A8 are **green** at review
  time: `./tools/queue-source-check` → rc 0, "OK - one queue: [0.4.363]
  pointer-only", because the worktree already carries CHANGELOG `[0.4.363]`
  and the PROGRESS entry naming it. The A12 "queue-source half" is likewise
  not in error (its FAIL detail reads "checks in error: failed-units" only).
  The recorded "19 passed, 9 failed" in the request/PROGRESS is consistent
  with a monitor run taken **before** the run's own entry/heading landed
  (A4–A8 then); after the entry landed the count became 24/4. Green is the
  intended end state, so this is a stale-measurement note, not a defect:
  every red that exists is correctly attributed and none is caused by the
  code under review.

## 9. Residual observations (judged non-blocking; reported, not fixed)

1. **Mount protection covers the root's direct entries only.** `protect()`
   is applied to top-level entries; `measure()` does not check `ismount`
   inside a subtree, so a nested mount (e.g. a FUSE mount) under a stale dir
   would not protect that dir, and `--apply`'s `rmtree` would cross it. This
   matches the documented claim (the socket/FIFO rule is the one stated
   "anywhere in the subtree"; the mount rule is stated for entries) and the
   tests pin exactly that (D6/D7, M4). Today nothing is mounted under `/tmp`
   (checked `/proc/self/mountinfo`: empty), `--apply` is never run on a live
   root, and the timer wiring is deliberately a later operator step — flag
   this as a hardening item for that step (e.g. an ismount check inside
   `measure`), not a blocker here.
2. **D10's hidden clause is dead code.** `"/." in c["path"].rsplit("/",1)[-1]`
   can never be true (a basename contains no `/`). The systemd/snap half of
   D10 works, and hidden protection is non-vacuously pinned elsewhere
   (D5 exact candidate set, D6/D7 exact skips, E21 survival, M1 divergence,
   H6 live), so no coverage is actually lost.
3. **`--age-hours nan|inf`** parses as a Python float and yields an empty
   plan with exit 0 rather than exit 2. Safe direction (an empty plan removes
   nothing; `-inf`/negatives are still refused by the floor), contract nit
   only; "not-a-number" (e.g. `abc`) correctly exits 2 (B7/B8).
4. **Plan→apply TOCTOU** (a fresh file appearing inside a planned dir between
   plan and `--apply`) is inherent and already documented in the tool's
   docstring with the `tmp-lock run --` guidance.

## Disclosure

- I wrote exactly one file in this repository: this verdict.
- I ran no `--apply`, deleted nothing under `/tmp`, and ran no state-changing
  `systemctl` (only the read-only `systemctl --failed` probe).
- Three small probe-capture files (one live dry-run JSON, one xml-stdout/
  stderr pair) were written to the approved scratch dir `/tmp/opencode/` by
  my read-only probes and left in place, since deleting under `/tmp` is
  forbidden to me.
