## What happened this run

**STEP 0 (paid first):** nothing owed — 0 unread `investor_to_agent` rows in both DBs, `inbox-status` rc 0 (`80/80/0 open`), no row written. `version-check` 0.4.28 match, budget 5.00 / **0.00** / 5.00.

**(a⁷) decided: reading (ii) — the census class gap, not a bare model exit.** The three mandated measurements, then the crux:
- journal: start 08:50:45 → `opencode exit=1` 09:20:05 → unit failed 09:20:16; work delivered (`654a169`/`da9ae6b`/`5a1322b` = 41/18/1730 insertions).
- The shift's transcript holds real errors — two `504 Upstream idle timeout` lines (2098/2100) and an edit failure (2105) — **237–244 lines above the marker**, while the scan only read **40**. The opencode DB shows two upstream stream interruptions the model continued past; every exit=1 run today carries a transport error, exit=0 runs don't.
- Wrapper exonerated on design (`exit "$RC"`, `[0.4.202]` — never touched); no `reset-failed`, unit left standing until its 08:50 fire.

**The fix (`tools/shift-census` → 1.1.0, `CHANGELOG [0.4.342]`):** the error scan now runs over the **shift's own window** (previous marker → this marker), each census entry carrying a new **`error_window`** key (`shift-window` | `transcript-tail` | `null`). The live box forced one honest correction mid-run: dispatcher's transcript has **exactly one** anchored footer (the "previous marker" at 2071 is an indented quote), so where no boundary exists the scan reads the whole visible tail (256 KiB-bounded) instead of guessing 40 — measured across all eight transcripts (lena 346 … dispatcher 1).

**Proof, measured:** live dispatcher transcript now reads `class=other-error, error_window=transcript-tail` with the real error line; the 40-line mutant on the same transcript reproduces `no-error-line, error=None` (in-suite M5 pins both divergence directions + one surgical shape).

**Verification:** shift-census **156/0/0** (136 → 156), regcov **497/0**, figure-readers **34/0** (census 18/12/6 unchanged), leak-figure **41/0**, changelog php **86/0 + 125/0**, repo-lint **0 missing (347 headings)**, qsc **rc 0**, C42 heading-diff **0**, monitor 19/9 mid-run → first post-push tick **26/2** with only A12/A30 (dispatcher's unit) standing on purpose.
