All gates re-read and stable. Now appending the run 985 PROGRESS entry **before** the commit (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1):
$ cd /data/repo; cat >> agent-logs/PROGRESS.md <<'ENTRY_EOF'

## Builder — run 985 — **one of the four preconditions the queued tmp-sweep `--apply` decision carries lands as code: `measure()` now consults `os.path.ismount` at EVERY node it walks (`protected-mount`, asked before age) and `remove()` re-measures the entry immediately before `rmtree()` and REFUSES (`OSError` → `failures`, exit 1) — because scope is enforced by resolved path at the ROOT alone, a bind mounted BELOW an entry was measured across a filesystem boundary and `shutil.rmtree()` (which does not stop at a mount) would have emptied it, i.e. deleted from outside `/tmp` by a tool whose rule is "nowhere else, ever"; suite **147 → 169** with mutant **M6** in M4's idiom, CHANGELOG **`[0.4.367]`**, reviewer-free `tools/` step, no promote, dev+prod at 0.4.28**

- **STEP 0, paid first and re-read at the close — owed nothing, no row written.** `SELECT COUNT(*) … WHERE direction='investor_to_agent' AND read=0` → **0 dev / 0 prod** (table `messages`, column `direction`); `./tools/inbox-status` → **rc 0**, `OK - nothing owed (0 unread, 0 open entries all replied)`, last reply **dev 147 / prod 112**; `INBOX.md` → **80 entries / 80 handled / 0 open**. Re-read specifically for an answer to run 971's repin ask: the newest row in each DB is still my own reply — **the mia/sofia model repin is still unanswered**, so the two Class A units stay standing and `identity-run.sh` stays untouched (`./tools/failed-units-classify` reports them; fixing them is reserved for the run that picks up the investor's answer). **Production is 0.4.28** (the investor's 2026-10-05 correction stands; 0.4.29 quoted nowhere): `./tools/version-check` → `OK: dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)`; `./tools/budget-show` → **2026-10, allowance 5.00 / spent 0.00 / remaining 5.00**; `/healthz` → **200 on :8000 and 200 on :8001**; `hiring/queue/` → **read-only, 2 files both `status: "proposed"`** — **(93)**/**(97)(a)** remain investor-gated. Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only, no key configured, **no secret or PII in any prompt, file or commit**.

- **Queue read, and the step taken: the reviewer's residual note on the timer step — one of the four preconditions the queued `--apply` decision itself carries.** The TOP queue item (mia/sofia repin) was re-read first and is still BLOCKED-ON-INVESTOR, so it was not taken. The tmp-sweep `--apply` switch still waits on the first scheduled fire (**`systemctl list-timers tmp-sweep.timer` → Sat 2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST, not yet fired**, so `/data/agent-logs/tmp-sweep-plans.jsonl` still holds only its **2** manual `mode: dry-run` lines) and on its own reviewer gate, so it was not taken either. What was left open and un-blocked was exactly one item — the note that had sat in that queue line since run 982: *"the queued `ismount`-in-`measure()` fix"*. It is now discharged **as code**, so that precondition is retired from the list rather than re-derived by the next run.

- **The defect, in one sentence each, and the two halves of the fix.** (1) **What was wrong:** `protect()` only ever sees a **top-level entry** (it is called on the roots' own listing), while `measure()` walks the whole subtree — so a bind mount sitting *inside* an entry was measured as ordinary scratch, and the scope rule (rule 2: `/tmp` and beneath, enforced by **resolved path at the root alone**) could not see it, because the path is still under `/tmp` even though the *bytes* are on another filesystem. (2) **Why it mattered:** `shutil.rmtree()` does **not** stop at a mount boundary — an `--apply` run would have emptied the mounted filesystem from outside it, i.e. exactly the "nowhere else, ever" failure the tool exists to prevent, and a silent one (exit 0, `ok: true`). (3) **Fix half A — plan time:** `measure()` now calls `os.path.ismount(cur)` at every node the walk visits and returns `{"error": "protected-mount"}` **before age is asked** (with `OSError` → `{"error": "unreadable"}`, so an unstatable node is never a pass). (4) **Fix half B — removal time:** the plan is a snapshot of a *different instant* than the removal, so `remove()` re-measures a directory immediately before `rmtree()` and raises `OSError("refused: …: protected-mount")` if it no longer measures → lands in `failures` → **exit 1**, never a partial silent success. Symlink handling is untouched (`lstat` + `unlink`, never follow), the 14-key JSON contract and the option surface are untouched, and `--help`'s rule-2 text now says "the entry itself or ANYWHERE below it".

- **How it was tested when no hermetic suite can take a kernel mount — M4's idiom, extended.** The suite already had M4 as a *unit control* (the tool imported as a module with `os.path.ismount` patched) precisely because creating a real mount needs a privilege no test may assume. M6 reuses it end to end: it drives `mod.main()` twice over one fixture whose **nested** path answers `True` from the patched `os.path.ismount` — **control**: the entry is `skipped` with `protected-mount`, `--apply` leaves it **on disk**, and a direct `remove()` probe raises the refusal; **mutant** (`measure()`'s check dropped): it is planned and really `rmtree()`d across the boundary, which is the divergence the assertion exists to catch. Plus **A14**, a help probe pinning that rule 2 names the subtree case, and separate assertions that `remove()`'s re-measure refuses on its own. Result: **169 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped**, rc 0 — stable across **two runs before this entry was written and a third at close** (was **147**; **+22 = A14 + M6a–M6t**). The one bug in the fix itself was caught by **re-reading the diff before the first run**: the socket guard had been written `stat.SISSOCK` (no underscore), which would have raised `AttributeError` on the first socket node instead of returning `protected-socket` — corrected to `stat.S_ISSOCK` before any test was executed, and the socket arm re-asserted by the existing M-series checks.

- **Gates, every one measured this run.** `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` → **rc 0, `violations=0`, `fig_claim=125 fig_stale=0`, `fig_head=125`, `syn_n=35 syn_ok=35`, `synp_n=87 synp_ok=87`, `cl_scope=90`, `cl_other=33`**; the **full parent** `bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` was started in the background and **did not return inside a 600 s window (no result captured)** — so **no parent figure is quoted this run**, only the child the parent drives, which is the one whose numbers the registry claims. `bash tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` → **169/0/0**; `bash tests/test_jsonl_rotate.sh` → **106/0/0**; `./tools/repo-lint` → **rc 0, `all 236 linted file(s) parse clean`, 371 changelog version headings / 371 unique / 0 missing citations** — read as the **pre-commit** figure on purpose: repo-lint lints **committed** blobs (`--sha`, default `HEAD`), so it sees `21d61d4` and rises to **372** only once this run's `[0.4.367]` lands; `./tools/regression-run --list` → **125 suite(s) discovered, none run (exit 0)**; `./tools/source-sync-check --env both` → **exit 0, 48 file(s) in sync** (so no promote exists to take); `./tools/queue-source-check` → **rc 1 before this entry**, solely because `[0.4.367]` is not yet named here — appending this entry is what clears it (post-push figure quoted in the close bullet).

- **Live cross-checks, all read-only.** **Mounts:** `/proc/self/mountinfo` holds **no** mount below `/tmp` today, so this fix is a **class defect, not a live incident** — the same rationale as run 979's `protected-cache` rule (measure the class before it bites, not after). `./tools/tmp-sweep` (dry-run, **no `--apply`**) → **727 candidates / 2,597,168,506 B (2.4 GiB), kept 263, skipped 16**, of which exactly one is `protected-cache` (`/tmp/gopath`) — counts move with the concurrent run, which is why section H asserts shape and never a count. `./tools/failed-units-classify --format json` → **exit 4, `class_a=2 class_b=4 class_c=0`, `catalog_models=70`** (mia + sofia Class A on `ling-3.1-flash-free` ABSENT; lena/jonas/leon/dispatcher Class B on `nemotron-3-ultra-free` PRESENT), stable across three reads this close (**2,273 bytes** each). **One non-reproduced reading is logged rather than dropped:** an earlier `--format json` read this run (09:29Z) returned **rc 4 with EMPTY stdout**; every follow-up returned valid JSON (**1,930 / 1,930 / 2,273 bytes**, rc 4), so the empty read stands as an unreproduced anomaly, not a tool state — two mistyped invocations of the same tool (`--top 1`, `--format text`) also returned argparse **exit 2** and are noted as operator error, not tool behaviour. `systemctl --failed` → **six units**, named and unactioned (Class A mia + sofia standing on purpose, Class B lena/jonas/leon/dispatcher left to self-heal on their own next fire, **never a `reset-failed`**). `./tools/system-status` → **`Overall: 2 CHECK(S) FAILED`** — `failed-units` (the same six) and `queue-source` (the `[0.4.367]`/PROGRESS gap this entry closes) — plus WARNs `git-tree 4 uncommitted`, `red-watch` (A3–A8 red *because* of those two), `log-truncation`, `SOA mname=placeholder`, `baseline-stale 5`, `coverage-guard fall 1 (aylin)`.

- **Scope and safety, one line each:** this run's commit carries **exactly five files — `tools/tmp-sweep`, `tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh`, `tools/REGISTRY.md`, `CHANGELOG.md` (`[0.4.367]` appended at the bottom so the top/app-train heading stays `0.4.28`), and this file** — staged by **explicit pathspec** read from `git status --porcelain` immediately before staging, **never `git add -A`** on this shared index; **no `app/` file and nothing in `source-sync-check`'s two env-synced trees** (`app/src/php`, `examples/workflows`) → **no promote is needed and none was taken**, dev and prod untouched at **0.4.28**; **no `systemctl` change of any kind** — no `reset-failed`, no restart, no unit or timer edit, the six failed units left standing on purpose and the timer left **dry-run**; **no `--apply` and no `/tmp` path removed, renamed or rewritten at any point** (every live figure above comes from `du`/`find`/`stat`/`proc` reads and dry-run tool runs; the only `--apply` executions in the suite act on its own trap-cleaned fixture root under `${TMPDIR:-/tmp}/opencode/`); **`/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` untouched**; **no live messages-DB write** (STEP 0 owed nothing → no `agent_to_investor` row, nothing marked read); no DNS write, no mail sent, no `hiring/queue/` write, no paid API, no API key configured; **never `git stash`** in this tree (run 959's measured loss); spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.

- **Queue — next small step (read this first):** **STEP 0 first every run** (today **0 unread dev / 0 prod**, `INBOX.md` **80/80/0 open**). **TOP, still BLOCKED-ON-INVESTOR and unchanged: the mia/sofia model repin** — re-read the investor's reply to **dev 147 / prod 112** first; if they pick an option, the run that picks it up edits **only** the two `MODEL=` lines in `/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` (mia, sofia), then runs **`./tools/failed-units-classify`** and watches it go from **exit 4 / class_a=2** to **exit 1**, and watches `systemctl --failed` + monitor **A12/A30** clear on the units' own first green fire (never a `reset-failed` from this desk); if they do not answer, the reds stay standing and the closing line must **not** revert to the stale "same two units" wording — **use the tool, not a hand count.** **NEXT CANDIDATE: after the first scheduled fire (2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST) read `/data/agent-logs/tmp-sweep-plans.jsonl` and then decide, in its own reviewer-gated step, whether to switch the timer to `--apply`** — that step now carries **three** preconditions, the fourth having been discharged **this run**: re-read the JSONL's candidate lists first (never switch blind), **`/tmp/chs` protection or a replacement browser** (run 982: the box's only chrome-headless-shell; sweeping it would silently skip 7 suites' browser sections), and `/tmp/gopath` (`protected-cache`) plus a live concurrent run's fresh files out of any apply — with `measure()`/`remove()` now enforcing the mount class at plan **and** removal time. **Also still open, unchanged:** the four Class B units are expected to self-heal on their own next fire — **re-read `./tools/failed-units-classify` then** (a residual Class B failure after two adjacent green fires is a NEW fault); **`coverage-guard --record`** (**green only**) remains the human act the live `fall: 1` / `stale: 5` waits on (handoff: `agent-logs/coverage-fall-attribution-2026-10-15.md`); the **log-truncation** standing WARN stays unreopened; run 952's **(i)** future-dated-format finding and the remaining queue items stand as written in `[0.4.366]`'s bullet; **(93)**/**(97)(a)** first if the investor answers `hiring/queue/*.json` (**2 proposals**); **§14 renewal** cadence, the LAN-only A/B/C, **SOA MNAME** and Pip's mail-policy research stay NEEDS-INVESTOR; **2026-10-20** §10 #6 re-read with `./tools/download-stats --format json`; **V14b** (`shift-deploy` 132 vs 127) stays a standing load-dependent environmental red. The **`- Live:`** line stays **125** and this run added **no suite** (it extended the existing `tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh`, 147 → 169). **`CHANGELOG.md` gained `[0.4.367]`**, so queue-source R8's newest heading is now **`[0.4.367]`**.

- **Close-state:** this entry is appended **before** the commit that carries it (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1) and is never `git checkout --`-ed, staged-only or parked in `/tmp` (rules 2–3); the stop-state check is `git status --porcelain` **not listing `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`** after the commit. This run makes **one content commit** (the five files above, explicit pathspec), then pushes; **if** a second commit follows (post-push re-reads), this entry's close-correction bullet is **re-appended before commit #2** (rule 2). The close ends with `git rev-list --count origin/main..main` → **0**. No app version moved — the top changelog heading stays **`0.4.28`**. Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.

feat(tools): run 985 — tmp-sweep's mount class now covers the SUBTREE, not just the entry: measure() consults os.path.ismount at every walked node (protected-mount, before age is asked) and remove() re-measures immediately before rmtree() and refuses (OSError -> failures, exit 1), because scope is enforced by resolved path at the root alone and rmtree() does not stop at a mount, so a bind mounted below an entry would have been emptied across a filesystem the tool may never touch (plan is a snapshot of a different instant than the removal); suite 147->169 with mutant M6 (M4 idiom, patched ismount driven through mod.main()) + A14; REGISTRY rule entry, CHANGELOG [0.4.367]; no promote, no systemctl change, dev+prod 0.4.28

- **Close-correction — post-push re-reads on the pushed tree (`5401cd0`), every one taken after the push, none carried, and the run stops here with a clean tree.** Push `21d61d4..5401cd0` rc 0, no force, no `git add -A` — the commit carries **exactly this run's five files** (explicit pathspec), **`git rev-list --count origin/main..main` → 0** and `main..origin/main` → **0**. `./tools/queue-source-check` → **rc 0, `OK - one queue: [0.4.367] pointer-only, 111 item line(s) frozen across 321 section(s), 203 PROGRESS bullet(s), 2 path token(s)`** — R8 clear with **`[0.4.367]`** as the newest heading, i.e. the one violation the pre-commit read showed (and the sole reason `system-status` failed `queue-source`) is closed by this entry; `./tools/repo-lint` on **HEAD → rc 0, `all 236 linted file(s) parse clean`, 372 changelog version headings / 372 unique / 11,029 citations / 0 missing** — the predicted **371 → 372** rise confirmed on the committed blob (repo-lint reads `--sha HEAD`, so 371 was the pre-commit reading of `21d61d4`); `bash tests/test_tmp_sweep.sh` post-push → **169 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped** (fourth run of the number this run introduced), `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 …` post-push → **rc 0** with `violations=0` and `fig_claim=125 fig_stale=0`; `./tools/inbox-status` → **rc 0, `nothing owed (0 unread, 0 open)`**, last reply **dev 147 / prod 112**, and a direct `SELECT COUNT(*) … AND read=0` → **0 dev / 0 prod** — **STEP 0 paid at the close, no `agent_to_investor` row written and nothing marked read** (the mia/sofia repin still unanswered); `./tools/version-check` → **`OK: dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)`**; `./tools/budget-show` → **2026-10, allowance 5.00 / spent 0.00 / remaining 5.00**; `./tools/source-sync-check --env both` → **exit 0, 48 file(s) in sync** (no promote exists to take); `/healthz` → **200 on :8000, 200 on :8001**; `./tools/failed-units-classify --format json` → **exit 4, `class_a=2 class_b=4 class_c=0`, `catalog_models=70`, `mode: read-only`** (mia + sofia Class A, the four others Class B); `systemctl --failed` → **the same six units**, unchanged (read only, no `reset-failed`); `systemctl list-timers tmp-sweep.timer` → first fire still **Sat 2026-10-17 00:15:36 CEST (12h left, not yet fired)** and `/data/agent-logs/tmp-sweep-plans.jsonl` still **2 lines**, so the `--apply` decision stays queued behind its **three** remaining preconditions; `git status --porcelain` → **empty** (this bullet committed, never parked, and `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md` not listed — the rule 3 stop-state). Nothing reopened: mia/sofia left standing by design (**Class A**), the four Class B units left to self-heal on their own next fire, no `reset-failed`, no `identity-run.sh` edit, no unit or timer change, the timer left **dry-run**, no `/tmp` path removed by this run at any point (the fix was measured, not exercised against a live mount — `/proc/self/mountinfo` holds none below `/tmp`), no live messages-DB write, `hiring/queue/` read-only (2 proposals `status: "proposed"`), no DNS write, no mail, no paid API, no key configured; **never `git stash`**. **Spend 0.00**, free `*-free` models only; the run stops here.

Run 985 is closed. Summary:

**STEP 0 (paid first, re-read at close)** — 0 unread `investor_to_agent` in dev and prod, `inbox-status` rc 0 "nothing owed", last reply dev 147 / prod 112, `INBOX.md` 80/80/0 open → no row written. The mia/sofia repin ask is still unanswered, so `identity-run.sh` stayed untouched.

**The step landed** — the reviewer's residual note on the timer step, one of the four preconditions the queued `tmp-sweep --apply` decision carries:
- `measure()` now consults `os.path.ismount` at every node it walks → `protected-mount`, before age is asked (a bind mounted *below* an entry was previously invisible to a rule that scopes the tool by resolved path at the root alone).
- `remove()` re-measures immediately before `rmtree()` and refuses (`OSError` → `failures`, exit 1), closing the plan→apply gap — the plan is a snapshot of a different instant than the removal.
- Suite **147 → 169** (A14 + M6 block in M4's idiom: patched `os.path.ismount`, driven through `mod.main()`), stable across four runs. The `stat.SISSOCK` typo was caught by re-reading the diff *before* the first run.

**Gates** — registry-coverage child rc 0 `violations=0 fig_claim=125 fig_stale=0` (parent suite exceeded a 600 s window, so no parent figure is quoted); jsonl-rotate 106/0; repo-lint 236 files clean, **371 → 372** headings on HEAD; regression-run 125 suites; source-sync 48 files exit 0; version dev/prod **0.4.28**; budget 5.00/**0.00**/5.00; healthz 200 ×2; `failed-units-classify` exit 4 → 2 A / 4 B / 0 C, catalog 70 (the one empty-stdout read at 09:29Z logged as unreproduced).

**Close protocol** — entry appended before commit #1, close-correction before commit #2; `5401cd0` (5 files, explicit pathspec) and `b98a6e5` (PROGRESS only) both pushed, `21d61d4..b98a6e5`, `rev-list origin/main..main` = 0, `git status --porcelain` empty (PROGRESS not listed). No promote, no `systemctl` change, no `/tmp` path removed, spend 0.00.
