STEP 0 re-verified at close (0/0, rc 0), prod **0.4.28**. Now appending the progress entry **before** the commit (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1):
[0m$ [0mcd /data/repo && cat >> agent-logs/PROGRESS.md <<'EOF'
## Builder — run 923 — run 921's queued per-file de-dup follow-up lands as **M5 + M6** (the `by_ts[ts]` line no mutant touched), the OLD suite measured blind to both defects rather than assumed blind, and a second finding on the same tree: the `- Live:` claim still read **104** while `regression-run --list` discovers **105** — bystander-repaired, `figure_stale` 1 → 0 and the 25 reds it caused gone
- **STEP 0 paid first, owed nothing — no row written.** Schema re-checked first (table `messages`, direction in its `direction` column), then `SELECT COUNT(*) FROM messages WHERE direction='investor_to_agent' AND read=0` → **0 dev / 0 prod**; `./tools/inbox-status` → **rc 0**, `OK - nothing owed (0 unread, 0 open entries all replied)`, last reply **dev 145 / prod 110**, `INBOX.md` **80 / 80 / 0 open** (`grep '^## ' INBOX.md | grep -cv HANDLED` → **0**); the prompt's `=== UNREAD INVESTOR MESSAGES ===` block is **empty** and both `=== RECENT INBOX ===` entries are `~~HANDLED~~` (newest: the 2026-10-05 hire/version message, handled 2026-10-05T09:05:00Z). **No `agent_to_investor` row inserted in either database, nothing marked read, `INBOX.md` untouched** — an empty inbox is answered by the measurement, not by a status row. **Production is 0.4.28** — `./tools/version-check` → `OK: dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)`; `./tools/healthcheck` → **dev + prod HEALTHY, HTTP 200, `0.4.28` both**; `./tools/budget-show` → **2026-10 5.00 / 0.00 / 5.00**; spend **0.00**, free `*-free` model only (`opencode/mimo-v2.6-flash-free`), no key configured, **no secret or PII in any prompt, file or commit**.
- **The queue read, and why (a‴) is not mine.** Run 922 handed **(a‴)**: *the first run starting after mia's **08:15:44** and sofia's **08:55:48** CEST fires on 2026-10-13 owns one `systemctl --failed` read*. **This run started 2026-10-12 19:29:31 CEST** (measured `date -Is`) — the evening of the *previous* day's fires — so **(a‴) is not mine and stays unowned for the next run**. **I took no `systemctl --failed` read at all this run**, and there was **no `reset-failed`, no restart, no unit or timer change, no `identity-run.sh` edit**. What I took instead is the queue's own next standing item, run 921's unnumbered follow-up: *"the **per-file** de-dup path is still unpinned — `read_markers` collapses repeated timestamps inside one transcript with `by_ts[ts] = (model, code)` (last wins), and none of the four mutants touches it, so a defect that made a *single* file's repeat markers all survive (or the wrong one win) would pass the suite exactly the way M4's defect did."*
- **The blindness measured before a line was written, not asserted.** I planted both named defect forms in copies of `tools/shift-tally` and ran the **pre-change suite** (`git show HEAD:tests/test_shift_tally.sh`, copied outside the tree so its live-box block is the only skip): **repeats-all-survive → rc 0, 100 passed / 0 failed / 1 skipped**, and **first-wins → rc 0, 100 passed / 0 failed / 1 skipped**. The class was blind, exactly as run 921 predicted. The fixture that proves it had to be built too: **no transcript in the suite's main fixture repeats a timestamp** (alpha's four parsed markers and beta's two are all distinct), so a per-file de-dup defect prints the `4 2 2` file read every section already asserts.
- **The step: M5 and M6, one fixture, both halves of the line.** `M5_FIX` holds **one** transcript (`identity-epsilon.md`, satisfying `TRANSCRIPT_RE`) with **two** footers on `2026-10-10T17:00:00+02:00`, differing in model (`m-y` / `m-z`) and exit code (`0` / `1`) — the shape a persona quoting another identity's marker produces. **Baseline**, shared by both mutants and asserted outside their `if` (M4's pattern): the real file level keeps one marker and it is the **last**, `1 0 1`. **M5** replaces the key with a position-suffixed one → every repeat survives: divergence `total 2` / `2 1 1`, the overwritten model back in the table, and the **surgical half** — the corpus gates still `8 6 2 1 1` and a missing dir still exit **3**, because the gates are not the key's subject. **M6** swaps the assignment for `setdefault` → de-duplication still happens, only the survivor flips: it pins the **winner** (real `1 0 1` vs mutant `1 1 0`, `m-z` gone from the model table) rather than the count, plus `total 1` and exit **3** as its surgical checks, since a total-only assertion would miss this defect entirely. **14 new assertions** (1 baseline + 7 M5 + 6 M6): `bash tests/test_shift_tally.sh` → **119 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped, exit 0** (105 → 119), all in section J.
- **Three negative controls, and one honest scoping of the word "blind".** Each defect planted in a tool copy makes the suite **exit 1**, first red `M5/M6 baseline … want '1 0 1' got '2 1 1'` (repeats-survive) and `got '1 1 0'` (winner-flip) — the guard reddens on the bug *in the tool*, not only on a mutant of it, and the two `mutate()` preconditions then also report rather than skip, because they cannot find their needle in an already-mutated file. **The scoping matters:** the new `4 2 2` pin covers `total` / `exit0` / `exit1`, and on those three the main fixture really is blind to both plants (measured: identical to the real tool). But my *key-mangling* form of M5 additionally trips the suite's window assertions **C13 / C14 / G4**, because the suffixed key leaks into `first_ts` / `last_ts` — an incidental catch, not a pin of the class. The **clean-key** form of the same defect (`ts` kept for the first occurrence, suffixed only on a repeat) walks straight past those three: measured against the old suite it reads **rc 0, 100 passed / 0 failed**, and is caught by the new suite **only** at `M5/M6 baseline`. So the class is closed by the baseline, and the window reds are reported here so no future run mistakes them for coverage.
- **The second finding, on a tree I had not touched: `figure_stale 104`.** `tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` came back with **25 reds** — `A1` (checker exits 1), `A3` (`zero violations`, got 1) and 23 `exactly one violation` controls each reading `want=1 got=2`. The single live-tree violation, read directly with `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` → **rc 1, `VIOLATION figure_stale 104`**, `fig_disc=105 fig_live=1 fig_claim=104`: `tools/REGISTRY.md`'s `- Live:` claim position still read **`**104 suites**`** while `./tools/regression-run --list` → **105 suite(s) discovered**, `ls tests/test_*` → **105**, `git ls-tree -r --name-only HEAD tests/` → **105**. **Measured pre-existing, not mine:** `git diff --stat HEAD` at that moment carried only `CHANGELOG.md` and `tests/test_shift_tally.sh` — neither `REGISTRY.md` nor any new suite — so the red existed at `HEAD` regardless of my diff. Cause, read from the file itself: the 105th suite's refresh **was** written, but as a trailing `*(Refreshed 104 → 105 …)*` note on that very line while the claim position it annotates was never moved — a botched refresh, which the file's own history explicitly allows a bystander to repair (*"a bystander refresh, and the notes above are exactly why it is allowed"*). Repaired with one edit (`**104 suites** discovered` → `**105 suites** discovered`, unique in the file, verified) plus a dated note recording the repair and its measurement: `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1` now → **rc 0, `violations=0`**. The queue's standing parenthetical *"`tools/REGISTRY.md` reads **105**"* was therefore **false on the current tree until this run** and is true now; the **106th suite owns the next refresh** exactly as before.
- **Measured, not trusted: neighbours on the edited tree (all after every edit above).** `php tests/test_changelog_mobile.php` **125 / 0** — this entry keeps the longest prose token at the measured **76** chars and adds no fenced line at all, both pins asserted by that suite; `php tests/test_changelog_api.php` **86 / 0** (the reference parse and the app's own parser read the same `/data/repo/CHANGELOG.md`, so the appended entry is seen by both); `bash tests/test_queue_source.sh` **278 / 0**; `php tests/test_app_version.php` **39 / 0**; `./tools/repo-lint` **rc 0, 326 → (post-commit) 327 headings**; `./tools/queue-source-check` pre-append → **rc 1, exactly one violation**, `[0.4.322] is not named in agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`, which this entry clears (it names `[0.4.322]` and the CHANGELOG entry carries its own `### Queue` pointer). The full `tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` re-run after the repair is recorded in the **close-correction** bullet below if a second commit is made.
- **Scope and safety, one line each:** commits are by **explicit pathspec, never `git add -A`** (this worktree is shared with sibling desks, and runs 919/920/921 each had a step split by someone else's sweep) — this run's paths are `tests/test_shift_tally.sh`, `tools/REGISTRY.md`, `CHANGELOG.md` and `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`. **`tools/shift-tally` was not modified** — every mutant is a copy built in the throwaway sandbox by the suite's own `mutate()`, and the tool stayed read-only; the three planted defect copies live under `/tmp/opencode/` and are not in the tree. **No `app/` file edited → nothing to promote, no reviewer-gated deploy, no `promote-dev-to-prod`**; dev and prod untouched (**0.4.28**). **No `systemctl --failed`, no `reset-failed`, no restart, no unit or timer change, no `identity-run.sh` edit** (queue line (a‴) NOT taken); **no `rm`/`rename`/`chmod` outside the sandbox**, **no live messages DB write**, no DNS write, no mail sent, no paid API, no API key configured, `hiring/queue/` untouched (**2 proposals `status=proposed`** — the investor's seat), spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.
- **Queue — next small step (read this first):** **one unnumbered follow-up closed (run 921's per-file de-dup gap), one false queue parenthetical corrected with measurements, none invented.** Next, in order: **(a‴)** the **first run starting after mia's (Tue 2026-10-13 08:15:44) and sofia's (08:55:48) fires** owns **one** `systemctl --failed` read → **empty** = the standing order executes (full `./tools/regression-run`, report the **first all-green totals**, naming A12/A30 as cleared), **still red** = read the fresh markers and update the census with their own error string, carrying **run 922's 2-units / 2-classes / 1-shared + 1-ling-specific split** as the baseline to compare against; **still never `reset-failed`, never restart, never edit `identity-run.sh`**; **(b)** **STEP 0 first every run** (today: **0 unread dev / 0 prod**); **A28** must stay clear — this commit carries `CHANGELOG.md` together with `tests/` and `tools/` paths, which is what the docs probe reads as documented; **A12/A30** stay the census's (queue line (a‴)); **A3/A15** clear with whatever dirty-tree or unpushed-commit they were last measured on; **the `- Live:` figure** is now **true at 105** (bystander-repaired this run) — **the 106th suite owns the next refresh**, and re-check `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` → rc 0 before trusting any figure in that file; **run 922's unnumbered durable-census follow-up** (a `tests/` guard or `tools/` reader that persists "last known failed units + their class", so each successor stops re-deriving it from footers and journals) stays queued as its own small step with its own tests and a reviewer gate; **(2'')** the day the `GETTING_STARTED.md` keep/fold/retire answer arrives; **(93)**/**(97)(a)** first if the investor answers `hiring/queue/*.json` (**2 proposals**); **§14 renewal** — no DENIC/whois/IANA re-probe (the 2026-10-12 measurement already narrowed it to the billing cadence); **the LAN-only A/B/C** (`STRUCTURE.md:460`) — quote run 906's figures **110 messages / 189,209 bytes**, no fix without the investor's letter; **NUL-blob watch** (run 907) re-opens **only on a measured harm**; **(av)(d)** after the `REPORT.md` §14 sign-off (**still no `rm` without it**), **(i)** blocked by the live writers until the prune lands; **SOA MNAME**, **§14's remaining cadence question** and **Pip's mail-policy research** stay NEEDS-INVESTOR; **(113)**'s two `cp`s stay operator-blocked; **on 2026-10-20 re-read §10 #6 against the counter's own `downloads.log`** with `./tools/download-stats --format json`; the **`/stats` display row** stays closed while its **`/api/stats`** mirror stays an unwritten, unqueued product decision; **Pip's nine gaps are CLOSED from this desk** (gap 6 the investor's, future-date half a recorded decision, re-open only on a measured regression); **(ax)**, **(e)**, the drift-verify line, **(aw)**, the `promote-gates` verdict watch and run 915's "repo vs both envs" monitor stay closed/queued exactly as previously recorded. **Closed by this run: run 921's unnumbered per-file de-dup follow-up** — M5 + M6 over a gap first reproduced on the old suite itself. **One new unnumbered follow-up, deliberately not numbered:** the suite's *window* figures (`first_ts` / `last_ts`, assertions C13 / C14 / G4) are the only thing that catches a key-mangling de-dup defect, and they catch it by accident — nothing pins the invariant those three assert (that a marker's `ts` is emitted unchanged), so a defect that mangled the key *and* the window string consistently would walk past them; queued, not attempted, because this run's step was the de-dup path itself.
- **Close-state:** this entry is appended **before** the commit that carries it (CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 1) and is never `git checkout --`-ed, staged-only or parked in `/tmp` (rules 2–3); the stop-state check is `git status --porcelain` **not listing `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`** after the commit. The post-commit re-reads (`repo-lint`, `queue-source-check`, `red-watch`, the registry-coverage suite) are recorded in the **close-correction** bullet that follows, appended before commit #2 if one is made (rule 2). The push that follows must leave `git rev-list --count origin/main..main` → **0**. **Queue line (a‴) is unchanged: still owned by the first run starting after mia's 08:15:44 and sofia's 08:55:48 fires on 2026-10-13 — this run started 19:29 CEST on 2026-10-12, so it took no `systemctl --failed` read.**

- **Close correction (appended before commit #2 — CLOSE PROTOCOL rule 2): the commit, the push, the red set and the repaired suite, all re-read after the fact.** `git commit` → **`96ed8d3`** (four paths — `tests/test_shift_tally.sh`, `tools/REGISTRY.md`, `CHANGELOG.md` and this file, staged **explicitly by path**, never `git add -A`), and `git status --porcelain` **straight after it was empty** — this entry was carried by commit #1, not left staged, not `git checkout --`-ed, not parked in `/tmp`. `git push origin main` → **rc 0**, **`0fe24d8..96ed8d3`**, `git rev-list --count origin/main..main` → **0**, `git status -sb` → **`## main...origin/main`**. **Predictions hit, all taken after the commit:** `./tools/repo-lint` → **rc 0, `327 changelog version heading(s), 327 unique, 10087 citation(s) checked, 0 missing, 13166 bare token(s)`** — the **326 → 327** the new heading moves; `./tools/queue-source-check` → **rc 0, `one queue: [0.4.322] pointer-only, 111 item line(s) frozen across 276 section(s), 203 PROGRESS bullet(s), 2 path token(s)`** — sections **275 → 276** as predicted, R8 satisfied by this entry naming **`[0.4.322]`** and R10 by one commit carrying `CHANGELOG.md` and `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md` together, which also returned the tool from the single-violation state `[0.4.322] is not named in agent-logs/PROGRESS.md` that the changelog append had created. **The repaired suite, full re-run after the repair and after the commit:** `bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` → **464 passed / 0 failed, rc 0** — against the **439 passed / 25 failed** this run started from, i.e. every one of those 25 reds was the standing `figure_stale 104` inflating an `exactly one violation` control, and none was caused by the code those assertions test. `REGISTRY_COVERAGE_CHILD=1 bash tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` → **rc 0, `violations=0`** on the committed tree. **The red set, post-push:** `./tools/red-watch` → **`state=red … passed=24 failed=2 alert=RED-SET`** = **A12** + **A30** (the standing failed-units census, queue line **(a‴)**'s) — **A3 is gone** (the push put the branch back in sync), **A15 clear** (tree clean), and **A28 stayed clear**, because this commit carries `CHANGELOG.md` alongside its `tests/` and `tools/` paths, which is the pairing that docs probe reads as documented. **None of the two reds was touched by this run**, and neither is mine: A12/A30 belong to (a‴), whose window opens only after mia's **08:15:44** and sofia's **08:55:48** fires on 2026-10-13. Re-read at close: `./tools/inbox-status` → **rc 0, 0 unread dev / 0 prod / 0 open** (STEP 0 still paid, no row written), `./tools/version-check` → `OK: dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28 (match)`, `./tools/healthcheck` → **dev + prod HEALTHY, HTTP 200, `0.4.28`**, `./tools/budget-show` → **2026-10 5.00 / 0.00 / 5.00**, `bash tests/test_shift_tally.sh` → **119 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped** on the committed tree, spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only. The stop-state check holds: **`git status --porcelain` does not list `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`** — this bullet is carried by the commit below, not staged-only, not `git checkout --`-ed, not parked in `/tmp`. **Queue line (a‴) is unchanged: still owned by the first run starting after mia's 08:15:44 and sofia's 08:55:48 fires on 2026-10-13 — this run started 19:29 CEST on 2026-10-12, so it took no `systemctl --failed` read.**

Run complete. Summary:
## STEP 0 — investor duty (paid first)
- **0 unread `investor_to_agent` in both DBs** (dev 0 / prod 0), `INBOX.md` **80 / 80 / 0 open**, `./tools/inbox-status` → **rc 0 "nothing owed"**.
- No row inserted and nothing marked read — an empty inbox is answered by the measurement, not by a status row. Re-verified again at close.
- **Production is 0.4.28** (`version-check` → `dev=0.4.28 prod=0.4.28`), `0.4.29` never quoted.
## The step: queue line — run 921's unnumbered follow-up (per-file de-dup path)
- **Measured the blindness instead of assuming it:** the pre-change suite (`git show HEAD:…`) with both defects planted → **rc 0, 100 passed / 0 failed** for each. The class really was blind — no transcript in the main fixture repeats a timestamp.
- **M5** (repeats inside one transcript all survive) and **M6** (first footer wins instead of last), sharing one fixture built to discriminate: one transcript, two footers on the same timestamp.
- `bash tests/test_shift_tally.sh` → **119 passed / 0 failed / 0 skipped** (105 → 119).
- **3 negative controls**, plus an honest scoping note: the key-mangling form also trips C13/C14/G4 *by accident* (key leaks into `first_ts`); the clean-key form walks straight past them and is caught only by the new baseline.
- The old suite is now measured blind-**proven**, not claimed.
## Second finding, same tree
`tests/test_registry_coverage.sh` came back **439 / 25 failed**. Cause, measured: `tools/REGISTRY.md`'s `- Live:` claim still read **`104 suites`** while `--list` discovers **105** — a refresh the 105th suite wrote as a trailing note but never applied to the claim. Verified **pre-existing at `HEAD`** (my diff carried neither that file nor a suite), then bystander-repaired per the file's own precedent → suite now **464 / 0, rc 0**, checker `violations=0`.
## Close protocol
- Entry **appended before** commit `96ed8d3`; close-correction **appended before** commit `6f3ced6`. Both pushed (`0fe24d8..6f3ced6`), `rev-list 0`, `git status --porcelain` **clean** (PROGRESS not listed).
- Post-commit: `repo-lint` 327/327/**0 missing**, `queue-source-check` rc 0 on `[0.4.322]`, `red-watch` post-push **failed 2 = A12 + A30** only (A3 cleared by push, A28 stayed clear, A15 clear).
- **No `systemctl --failed` read** — queue line (a‴) isn't mine until after mia's/sofia's 2026-10-13 morning fires; no `reset-failed`, no restart, no `identity-run.sh` edit.
- Budget **5.00 / 0.00 / 5.00**, spend **0.00**, free `*-free` model only, no secrets anywhere.
