### Queue$
Authoritative next-candidate queue lives in `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`, in the newest run entry's `Queue M-bM-^@M-^T next small step` bullet M-bM-^@M-^T it is not duplicated here, and has not been since `[0.4.67]`. To read the live queue, open `PROGRESS.md`; to know whether that is still true, run `tools/queue-source-check`.$

[0m$ [0mcd /data/repo && cat >> CHANGELOG.md <<'ENTRY'
## [0.4.372] - 2026-10-24 — `system-status`'s `download` row stops writing the counter it reports: the dashboard's own probe is a HEAD now (it had been the source of 3,002 of prod's 3,018 counter lines = 99.5 %), `check_endpoint` grows a METHOD argument where an unknown method is a red row that issues NO request, and the counter's suite pins both halves with an argv-recording curl stub + a neutered-`-I` mutant (85 → 106 assertions)
### Fixed
- **The monitor was the counter's biggest writer.** Run 1004's 2026-10-20 §10 #6 re-read measured **3,002 of prod's 3,018 counter lines (99.5 %)** as this one row's own probes — `ua=curl/8.5.0`, `peer=127.0.0.1`, gap distribution bimodal at 69–70 s and 830–831 s — sourced to a line, not a guess: `tools/system-status:1720`'s `check_endpoint "download" "http://localhost:8001/download/gladex"`, a plain `curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}"` **GET**, while `tests/test_download_counter.php` already proved a **HEAD** writes nothing. A dashboard that reads a counter and writes into it is not a reader: every headline §10 #6 quotes was mostly the monitor watching itself.
- **Fix: `check_endpoint NAME URL [METHOD]`** with `get` (the default — the other thirteen endpoint rows are byte-for-byte unchanged) and `head`, case-insensitive, implemented as `curl_opts+=(-I)` so curl asks for the headers only: no body delivered, therefore no write (`download_counter.php`'s `!== 'GET'` gate refuses it, the same property section 4 of this suite already proved over the wire). The row is now `check_endpoint "download" "http://localhost:8001/download/gladex" head`.
- **An unknown METHOD is a red row that issues NO request at all** (`status=error`, `ERRORS++`, detail `unknown method '<sanitised to [a-z0-9-]>'`, then `return` before any curl), because the failure mode this row exists to kill is a probe silently falling back to a *writing* GET: a typo'd flag must not re-open the defect one layer down. The sanitiser keeps the detail JSON-safe, so the argument can never break the contract other suites grep.
### Tests
- **`php tests/test_download_counter.php` → 106 passed / 0 failed, exit 0, 0.15 s** (**85 → 106**, +21, all in the new section 5; the header docblock now says four layers). Pins, read off the REAL tool source: the download row is the **only** line of the tool naming the counted URL and carries method `head`; the extracted `check_endpoint` body, run against a **recording curl stub** (argv appended, `200` answered), records `-s -o /dev/null -w %{http_code} -I <url>` for `head`, no `-I` for the default, and **zero curl calls** plus `unknown method 'bogus'` for an unknown method, with a 200 keeping the row `ok` in all three shapes.
- **M1** (`curl_opts+=(-I)` → `curl_opts+=(-s)`, precondition-counted at exactly one occurrence) must **diverge on the argv** while still emitting a well-formed row — so the callee half cannot pass on a function that ignores the flag.
- **Negative control, replayed out of tree on the pre-fix tool** (`git show a9c45a2^:tools/system-status`): **96 passed / 7 failed, exit 1**, including `the counted URL is probed with method head (got NULL)`, `a head probe passes -I (got: -s -o /dev/null -w %{http_code} http://…)` and `an unknown method issues NO request at all (got 1 call(s))` — the old third argument nothing read, measured rather than asserted; the two M1 lines are refused by their precondition instead of passing vacuously.
- Neighbouring readers re-measured: no suite pins this tool's endpoint argv or the counted-URL line (the only structural reader, `tests/test_system_status_failed_units.sh`'s `src.index("\ncheck_endpoint()")` boundary, still resolves at the definition — every comment line above it starts with `#`). **No new suite file, so the registry's `- Live:` figure stays `125`** and no figure needed a refresh.
### Notes
- **No promote, and that is by construction**: `tools/`, `tests/`, `tools/REGISTRY.md`, `REPORT.md` and this file are repo scope, not one of `source-sync-check`'s two env-synced trees (`app/src/php`, `examples/workflows`) — so dev and prod are untouched and stay **0.4.28**: the investor's 2026-10-05 correction stands and the wrong figure `0.4.29` is quoted nowhere. The fix is live on the next fire because `system-status` is executed in place from the repo. **Measured on the box this run**: one full live `system-status --format json` left the prod counter at **3,028 → 3,028 lines (delta 0)** with the row `ok 200` (the two `error` rows were the standing `failed-units` + `ip-drift`); the last self-probe ever written is `ts=1792879298` = **2026-10-24T22:01:38Z**, and **14 min 26 s later, with further system-status invocations having run, `curl/8.5.0` lines after that timestamp: 0** (the only new lines are `gladex-dlc-test-*` markers from concurrent suites).
- **`tools/system-status` reached HEAD through a concurrent identity's sweep, not this run's commit**: the `git add -A` safety-net in **`a9c45a2`** (identity sofia shift, Atlas, 2026-10-25 00:10:33 +0200) carried the in-flight fix (33 lines) *and* this suite's new header paragraph while this run was still measuring; the remaining 137 lines of the suite plus this entry land in this run's own commit, staged by **explicit pathspec**. Same mid-run sweep class as the registry's `85 → 86` note — recorded rather than smoothed; the tree reads correct after this commit either way, and nothing was reverted to keep a gate green.
- STEP 0 paid first and owed nothing: `SELECT COUNT(*) … WHERE direction='investor_to_agent' AND read=0` → **0 dev / 0 prod**, `./tools/inbox-status` → rc 0 *"nothing owed (0 unread, 0 open entries all replied)"*, `INBOX.md` **80 entries / 80 handled / 0 open**, last reply **dev 149 / prod 114** — so no `agent_to_investor` row was written, and the mia+aylin repin ask stays unanswered (the two Class A units stand, `/usr/local/sbin/identity-run.sh` untouched, `systemctl` unchanged). No `/tmp` path removed, no DNS write, no mail sent, no `hiring/queue/` write, no paid API, no API key configured; staging by explicit pathspec, never `git add -A` on this shared index; **never `git stash`** in this tree. Spend **0.00**, free `*-free` models only.

summary parsing:
The tree carries four summary shapes and a suite may add any number of
them: `=== Results: 185 passed, 0 failed, 0 skipped ===`,
`Results: 19 passed, 0 failed`, `repo-lint suite: 291 passed, 0 failed`,
and the bare `11 passed, 0 failed`. So the pattern is read as NUMBERS,
not as a format: the last `N passed, M failed[, S skipped]` anywhere in
the combined stdout+stderr wins.
"Last match", not "last line": seven suites print trailing noise after
their summary — a `====` banner in six, and `test_pdns_api.sh` ends in a
shell `Killed` message — so the last LINE is routinely not the summary.
Ties are broken by line kind: a match on an assertion line (one starting
`PASS:`/`FAIL:`/`SKIP:`/`ok`/`-`/`*`) loses to a match on any other line,
so a PASS line that quotes numbers cannot steal the verdict from the
summary that follows it. If every match is an assertion line, the last
match is used rather than reporting no summary — a suite really did print
