 ### Live (no restart, no deploy, no promote)
 - `repo-lint --help` now renders the docstring block verbatim under `exit codes:` — all four codes, all three exit-1 rules.
 - `repo-lint --format json` (real HEAD) → exit 0, 169 files, 45 module files compile clean, `changelog_version` = `entries 61, unique 61, unparseable 0, duplicates []` (the live REGISTRY bullet carried `56` — refreshed in this entry rather than left to rot, being the same class of stale copy).
-- `tools/system-status --format human` → **ALL SYSTEMS HEALTHY** (re-run after the doc appends; warnings limited to the two known investor-owned ones plus this run's own uncommitted files).
+- `tools/system-status --format human` → **ALL SYSTEMS HEALTHY** after the doc appends, with three warnings: the two known investor-owned ones (empty reviewer mailbox, SOA MNAME) plus `git-tree` reporting this run's files — and `promote-gates … ship-tree REFUSED: worktree differs from HEAD in 1 path(s): app/src/php/templates.php`, which is **another identity's uncommitted WIP, not this run's** (recorded because it is the reason the commit below used explicit paths instead of `git add -A`).

 ### Full regression (run after the code, before the doc appends)
**36 suites, 2770 assertions, 0 failed** — 19 shell = **1896** (**+19** over 1877, exactly `test_repo_lint` 156 → 175, no other shell suite moved), 17 PHP = **874** (**+55** over 819: **+53** the new `test_investor_heading.php` and **+2** from `[0.4.56]` — `test_main_landmark`'s `<main> opens before the <h1>` assertion is conditional on the page having an `<h1>` after `<main>`, and the promoted `/investor` heading now satisfies it in **both** envs; verified by counting that label's occurrences and by curling `/investor`, not inferred from the total). Every suite emits exactly one summary line (checked), so the aggregation is not double-counting. Doc/contract suites after the appends: `test_repo_lint` **175/0**, `test_changelog_api` **86/0**, `test_app_version` **39/0**, `test_cli_version` **35/0**, `test_ts_ordering` **7/0**; `CHANGELOG.md` version tokens unique (`sort | uniq -d` → **0**, extracted from the first bracket of each `## [` heading only — the naive `grep -o` picks up version mentions inside titles and reports false duplicates).

Now the PROGRESS.md entry:
$ cd /data/repo && cat >> agent-logs/PROGRESS.md <<'EOF'

## 2026-09-25T16:35Z main-loop run — STEP 0 clear (standalone entry above, this run's first action); `repo-lint` documented its own exit codes TWICE in one file and the two copies had drifted — the docstring still described exit 1 as a parse failure, the contract from before the Go and CHANGELOG gates existed: one copy now, the epilog built from it, suite 156 → 175, mutations 9 → 11
- **STEP 0 (done first, re-verified below)**: the standalone `16:06Z` entry was this run's first action — **0 unread `investor_to_agent` on both DBs** (dev 0 of 59, prod 0 of 25, every row read, not just counted), `INBOX.md` **66/66 HANDLED**, `mailboxes/*` only their scaffolding, `/root/Maildir/new` only the old `tls-restore smoke test`. **No reply owed, nothing to mark.** Re-checked at run end: still 0 unread on both, INBOX still 66/66. Investor-side note carried: **13 of our `agent_to_investor` rows remain unread (prod mirrors 17)**, including **msg #57 (A/B/C public-gating escalation)**.
- **Defect class this step exists for (queue item (1) from `[0.4.55]`, 1st of a series "a file that documents itself twice")**: verbatim — *"`repo-lint`'s **module docstring** exit-codes block is stale … `0 - every linted file parses cleanly` / `1 - at least one COMMITTED file fails to parse (failures[] says which)` omits **both** the Go compile gate and the CHANGELOG rule; its `--help` epilog is correct."* Same harm shape as the twenty-three before it, but with the arbiter **inside one file**: `[0.4.53]` and `[0.4.55]` fixed a *parent* restating a *child's* contract; this is the child restating **its own**, twice, 68 lines apart. The docstring and the epilog both read as correct prose about the same four numbers — **neither looks wrong in isolation**, which is exactly why nothing ever caught it, and the docstring is the copy `import`/`pydoc`/a source reader sees first, so the source was the copy that lied.
- **Fix = remove the second copy, not edit it** (the design choice, made not asked): a pointer would make `--help` standalone-useless — `[0.4.55]` already rejected that for the parent; a third enumeration pinned by a test is the arrangement that has now failed twice, because a test only compares copies someone remembered to write. `docstring_exit_codes()` reads `__doc__`, finds the `Exit codes:` heading, takes the lines to the first blank line and dedents 4, and `EPILOG = "exit codes:\n" + docstring_exit_codes() + …` — **one literal, two renderings, same bytes.** The docstring block was widened to the three-rule wording first, so the *correct* text survives and the epilog's old literal is gone. `RawDescriptionHelpFormatter` (already in use) preserves the block verbatim, which is what makes a byte-for-byte comparison honest instead of whitespace-normalised.
- **Step taken (test-first)**: assertions written **before** the tool was touched — new **section P** in `tests/test_repo_lint.sh`: **P1** the contract text occurs exactly once in the source; **P2** the docstring block names all three rules; **P3** it still documents codes 0,1,2,3; **P4** `--help` exits 0 **and** its `exit codes:` section equals the docstring block **byte for byte**; **P5** the three rules present in the rendered `--help`. **Pre-fix red captured** (tool md5 `3ebcf0b4ae7e290796fbed12c57e422b`, suite md5 `a50e16d7a5643bdfd18b667752e50d2c`, log `/tmp/opencode/exitcodes/pre-fix.log`) → **166 passed / 6 failed**: P1 (2 copies), P2 ×2 (Go rule + CHANGELOG rule absent from the docstring), P4 (the renderings differ), M10's agreement check, M11's precondition — **unplantable** pre-fix (the source already had 2 occurrences), so its other 3 assertions could not run: **172 counted pre-fix vs 175 post-fix**, a difference explained rather than glossed. **Guards that passed pre-fix and so identify themselves**: P2's parse rule, P3, P4's `--help exits 0`, all three P5 rules — the epilog was the copy that was right.
- **Baseline verified, not assumed**: the *committed* suite against the *committed* tool gave **155/156**, then **156/156 twice**; the single red was `L: real repo status changed during a run` (a concurrent identity committing mid-run), not this change — checked before touching anything so a flake could not be mistaken for my regression.
- **Fix + result**: docstring block rewritten to the three-rule wording, `docstring_exit_codes()` added, `EPILOG`'s literal replaced by the derivation → **175 passed / 0 failed** (**156 → 175**, **+19**); `bash -n` clean, `ast.parse` clean.
- **Mutations (2 new, on copies — the real tool is never edited; precondition-asserted exactly once)**: **M10** the CHANGELOG rule dropped from the tool's *one* contract — the defect itself planted in the surviving copy — caught by **P2/P5** while **P1 and P4 stay GREEN** (derived means both renderings lose it *together*, so the copies still agree: **agreement is not correctness**); surgical = the agreement holding, the parse rule surviving, `--help` still 0. **M11** a second copy planted as a source comment `--help` never renders — caught by **P1 alone**, with **P4 asserted green** for it (`--help` is still byte-identical to the docstring), proving the render-level check cannot see a copy that is never rendered. **9 → 11**; the pair is complementary by construction and each mutant's green assertions are what prove the other's necessity.
- **Live** (no restart, no deploy, no promote): `repo-lint --help` renders the docstring block verbatim under `exit codes:` with all four codes and all three exit-1 rules; `repo-lint --format json` on real HEAD → exit 0, 169 files, 45 module files compile clean, `changelog_version` `entries 61, unique 61, duplicates []` — REGISTRY's live bullet still carried **56**, refreshed rather than left to rot (same class of stale copy); `system-status --format human` → **ALL SYSTEMS HEALTHY**.
- **Full regression (run after the code, before the doc appends): 36 suites, 2770 assertions, 0 failed** — 19 shell = **1896** (**+19** over 1877, exactly `test_repo_lint` 156 → 175, no other shell suite moved), 17 PHP = **874** (**+55**: **+53** new `test_investor_heading.php` and **+2** from `[0.4.56]` — `test_main_landmark`'s `<main> opens before the <h1>` assertion is *conditional* on the page having an `<h1>` after `<main>`, and the promoted `/investor` heading now satisfies it in **both** envs; established by counting that label's occurrences and curling `/investor`, **not inferred from the total**). Also checked that every suite prints exactly **one** summary line, so the aggregation cannot double-count. Doc/contract suites after the appends: `test_repo_lint` **175/0**, `test_changelog_api` **86/0**, `test_app_version` **39/0**, `test_cli_version` **35/0**, `test_ts_ordering` **7/0**; `CHANGELOG.md` **62 headings, 62 unique** (tokens taken from the first bracket only — a naive `grep -o` also matches version *mentions* inside titles and reports false duplicates, which I hit and corrected before quoting any number).
- **Docs**: `tools/REGISTRY.md` §repo-lint — new **"The exit-code contract has ONE copy"** subsection (derivation, why-not-pointer, P1/P4 and the `RawDescriptionHelpFormatter` premise), suite bullet **156 → 175**, new **Section P** bullet including which P5 assertions are guards, mutations **9 → 11** with M10/M11 and their green-by-design assertions, this pre-fix replay, a refreshed live line, and the `**Status**` line moved to 175/175 + 36 suites/2770; `CHANGELOG.md` **`[0.4.57]` parked at the bottom** with the placement note (train head stays `0.4.28`) and `[0.4.55]`'s queue item (1) **struck and marked actioned** — noting the action taken was *removing the second copy*, not editing it. **No new tool/gate → no new REGISTRY section**, `system-status`'s "29 checks" untouched.
- **New queue item (honest scope note)**: the exit-codes block was the **only** one unified — the epilog still hand-duplicates **five more** docstring sections (`languages:`, `go compile gate:`, `changelog version gate:`, `env:`, `examples:` vs the docstring's `Languages`, `Go COMPILE gate`, `CHANGELOG version-identity gate`, `Environment`, `Usage`). Same file, same drift risk, same fix available; scoped out of this step rather than slipped in.
- **Safety**: model spend **0.00** (`*-free` only), no secrets/personal data in prompts or commits, **no money moved** (BUDGET unchanged: 1.50 spent / 3.50 remaining), **no DNS write**, **no service restart**, **no promote** — `/opt/startup/{dev,prod}` untouched except the read-only STEP 0 queries; the message DBs were **read only** (no reply owed); `/root/.pdns-token` never read; no `noreply@` sendmail invoked. Every mutation ran on a copy under the suite's sandbox.
- **Staging discipline (deliberate deviation from `git add -A`)**: the tree held **another identity's live WIP** — `app/src/php/templates.php` modified and `tests/test_templates_contrast.php` untracked (Leon's contrast work, HEAD had already moved to `99f0ad6`) — so `git add -A` would have swept their half-finished files into this commit. Added **explicitly** instead: `tools/repo-lint`, `tests/test_repo_lint.sh`, `tools/REGISTRY.md`, `CHANGELOG.md`, `agent-logs/PROGRESS.md`. The standing rule ("never `git add -A` while another identity's WIP could sit in the tree") is the tighter reading of the loop's own instruction and was applied for safety.
- **Still blocked (investor-owned)**: NEEDS-INVESTOR **#57 public investor-route gating A/B/C** and **SOA MNAME** (`a.misconfigured.dns.server.invalid.`) — surfaced by `system-status` every run, cannot proceed unilaterally. 13 of our `agent_to_investor` rows remain unread by the investor, including **#57**.
- **Next-candidate queued, not actioned**: (1) **New**: unify the remaining **five** epilog/docstring section pairs in `tools/repo-lint` by the same derivation (see above). (2) `ship-tree` names the first offending path but not *why* it is there (carried from `[0.4.49]`). (3) `--ignored` may need a pathspec exclude if `app/src/php` gains a large ignored build dir (carried). (4) The `promote-gates` age re-ages on every run (carried, intended).

Exactly my 5 files staged, Leon's WIP untouched. Committing:
$ cd /data/repo && git commit -q -F - <<'EOF' && git log --oneline -1
repo-lint documented its own exit codes TWICE in one file and the two copies had drifted — the docstring still said "fails to parse", the contract from before the Go and CHANGELOG gates existed: one copy now, the epilog BUILT from it (queue item 1 from 0.4.55)

The module docstring's `Exit codes:` block read `0 - every linted file parses
cleanly` / `1 - at least one COMMITTED file fails to parse (failures[] says
which)` — accurate when written, stale since the Go compile gate and the
CHANGELOG version-identity rule landed — while the argparse epilog 68 lines
below it in the SAME file already named all three exit-1 rules. Both read as
correct prose about the same four numbers, neither looks wrong in isolation,
and nothing ever lined them up: the harm shape of the 23 fixes before it, but
with the arbiter inside one file instead of between a parent and a child.
The docstring is the copy import/pydoc/a source reader sees first, so the
source was the copy that lied.

Fix removes the second copy rather than editing it: `docstring_exit_codes()`
reads `__doc__`, takes the lines from the `Exit codes:` heading to the first
blank line and dedents 4, and `EPILOG = "exit codes:\n" + docstring_exit_codes() + …`
— one literal, two renderings, the same bytes. The docstring block was widened
to the three-rule wording first so the CORRECT text survives and the epilog's
old literal is deleted. Rejected deliberately: a pointer (breaks `--help`
standalone — [0.4.55] already ruled that out for the parent) and a third
enumeration pinned by a test (the arrangement that has now failed twice: a test
only compares copies someone remembered to write). RawDescriptionHelpFormatter
was already in use, which is what makes a byte-for-byte assertion honest
instead of whitespace-normalised.

Test-first, assertions before the tool was touched: new section P — P1 the
contract text occurs exactly once in the source, P2 the docstring names all
three rules, P3 it still documents codes 0-3, P4 `--help` exits 0 AND its
`exit codes:` section equals the docstring block byte for byte, P5 the three
rules in the rendered help. Pre-fix red vs untouched tool (md5
3ebcf0b4ae7e290796fbed12c57e422b / suite a50e16d7a5643bdfd18b667752e50d2c,
/tmp/opencode/exitcodes/pre-fix.log) → 166/6: P1 (2 copies), P2 x2, P4, M10's
agreement check, M11's precondition unplantable (already 2 occurrences) — so
172 counted pre-fix vs 175 post-fix, a difference explained. Guards passing
pre-fix identify themselves: P2's parse rule, P3, P4's exit 0, all three P5 —
the epilog was the copy that was right. Baseline of the committed suite against
the committed tool re-verified 155/156 then 156/156 twice (the one red was
`L: real repo status changed during a run`, a concurrent identity, not this).
Post-fix 175/0 (+19), bash -n and ast.parse clean.

Mutations 9 → 11, both on copies, precondition-asserted exactly once: M10 the
CHANGELOG rule dropped from the tool's ONE contract (the defect itself planted)
— caught by P2/P5 while P1 and P4 stay GREEN because derived copies lose the
rule together, so they still AGREE: agreement is not correctness. M11 a second
copy planted as a source comment `--help` never renders — caught by P1 ALONE
with P4 asserted green for it, proving a byte-perfect render check cannot see
a copy that is never rendered. The two are complementary by construction; each
mutant's green assertions are what prove the other's necessity.

Live: `repo-lint --help` renders the docstring block verbatim with all four
codes and all three exit-1 rules; JSON on HEAD exit 0, 169 files, 45 module
files compile, changelog 61/61 unique (REGISTRY's live bullet still said 56 —
refreshed, same class of stale copy); system-status ALL SYSTEMS HEALTHY. Full
regression AFTER the code, BEFORE the doc appends: 36 suites / 2770 assertions
/ 0 failed — 19 shell = 1896 (+19, exactly this suite), 17 PHP = 874 (+53 new
test_investor_heading + 2 from 0.4.56, where test_main_landmark's conditional
"main opens before the h1" assertion newly fires in both envs on /investor —
established by counting the label and curling the route, not inferred from the
total). Every suite prints exactly one summary line (checked). Doc suites after
the appends 175/86/39/35/7 all 0; CHANGELOG 62 headings / 62 unique (first
bracket only — a naive grep -o also matches title mentions and reports false
duplicates, hit and corrected before quoting a number).

Docs: REGISTRY §repo-lint gains "The exit-code contract has ONE copy", the
Section P bullet (naming P5 as the guard set), M10/M11 with their
green-by-design assertions, this pre-fix replay, a refreshed live line, and
Status → 175/175 + 36 suites/2770. CHANGELOG [0.4.57] parked at the bottom
(train head stays 0.4.28) with [0.4.55]'s queue item (1) struck and actioned,
noting the action was REMOVING the second copy, not editing it. No new tool or
gate → no new REGISTRY section, "29 checks" untouched.

STEP 0 first and re-verified at run end: 0 unread investor_to_agent on both DBs
(dev 0 of 59, prod 0 of 25), INBOX 66/66 HANDLED, no reply owed; 13 of our
agent_to_investor rows still unread by the investor including #57. New queue
item: the exit-codes block was the only one unified — five more epilog/docstring
section pairs still hand-duplicated in the same file. Staged EXPLICITLY (5
paths) rather than `git add -A`: the tree held another identity's live WIP
(app/src/php/templates.php + tests/test_templates_contrast.php). No money, no
DNS write, no restart, no promote, no secrets.

Run complete.

## STEP 0 — investor loop (done first, re-verified at run end)
- **No unread messages**: `investor_to_agent` unread = **0** in both DBs (dev 0 of 59, prod 0 of 25), `INBOX.md` **66/66 HANDLED**, no pending Dispatcher assignment. **No reply owed** — recorded as a standalone PROGRESS entry before any product work.
- Investor-side note carried: 13 of our `agent_to_investor` rows remain unread by the investor, including **#57 (public routing A/B/C)** — still blocked on them.

## The one step this run
**`repo-lint` documented its own exit codes twice in one file, and the two copies had drifted.** The module docstring still read `1 - at least one COMMITTED file fails to parse` — the contract from *before* the Go compile and CHANGELOG gates existed — while the epilog 68 lines below it already named all three rules. Both read as correct prose about the same four numbers, which is why nothing ever caught it.

The fix **removes the second copy rather than editing it**: `docstring_exit_codes()` reads the docstring's `Exit codes:` block and `EPILOG` is built from it — one literal, two renderings, same bytes. (A pointer would break standalone `--help`; a third enumeration pinned by a test is the arrangement that just failed twice.)

**Test-first:**
- Pre-fix red vs untouched tool → **166/6** (P1 two copies, P2 ×2, P4, plus M11 unplantable → 172 counted pre-fix vs 175 post-fix); baseline of the committed suite re-verified **156/156** first, so a concurrent-identity flake couldn't be mistaken for my regression.
- Post-fix → **175/0** (`156 → 175`, +19); mutations **9 → 11** and deliberately complementary: **M10** turns both renderings equally wrong while P1/P4 stay green (*agreement is not correctness*), **M11** hides a copy `--help` never renders and is caught by **P1 alone**.
- Full regression **36 suites / 2770 assertions / 0 failed**. The +55 PHP was traced, not assumed: +53 new suite, +2 because Mia's `h1` fix makes a conditional assertion fire in both envs (verified by counting the label and curling `/investor`).

**Docs**: REGISTRY §repo-lint (new "ONE copy" subsection, Section P, M10/M11, refreshed live numbers — it still said changelog `56`, actually `61`), CHANGELOG `[0.4.57]` parked at the bottom with `[0.4.55]`'s queue item struck, PROGRESS.

**Committed `8c90be0` and pushed** to `git://git.gladex.de/gladex.git`.

## Two things worth flagging
1. **I did not use `git add -A`.** The tree held another identity's live WIP (`app/src/php/templates.php` modified, `tests/test_templates_contrast.php` untracked), so I staged my 5 paths explicitly. The standing "never `git add -A` while another identity's WIP could sit in the tree" rule is the tighter reading of your instruction; I applied it for safety and documented the deviation in PROGRESS.
2. **New queue item**: the exit-codes block was the *only* one unified — the epilog still hand-duplicates five more docstring sections in the same file. Scoped out, not slipped in.

Safety: model spend **0.00**, no money, no DNS write, no restart, no promote, no secrets read or committed.
exit=0
